An open letter to Swindon Borough Council

Dear Susie Kemp,

I recently read and saw in the Swindon Advertiser the disgusting and parlous state of the Whitworth Road Cemetery, where my parents are interred and you are responsible for its upkeep and management.

Councils have not only a legal duty but a moral duty to ensure that the dignity and respect that those people buried in a council cemetery is afforded to them.

The unmanaged and unkept appearance is frankly shocking.

Some spirited relations of people buried in the cemetery have been doing the council’s job.

The reason being that they also feel it is disrespectful to those that buried there.

Both of my parents are buried in the Whitworth Road Cemetery .

They arrived in the UK at the end of World War 2 as Polish refugees and worked all their lives to improve their situation, build a home and lived in Swindon all their lives.

They were very keen gardeners throughout and would be horrified at the current situation .

I suspect that the usual excuse of cost will be trotted out by the council for the disgraceful state of the cemetery.

Added to this will be the usual pressure on councils funds and other text book phrases .

Well, I have a zero cost suggestion you should should consider.

There is a very large free labour resource, resident in the Marriott Hotel in Swindon.

I look forward to receiving your comments and agreement to the above suggestion .

Politicians simply cannot tell the truth

Over the years, I have often referred to the inability of politicians of all stripes to tell the truth.

With regular monotony promises, vows and pledges morph into aspirations.

We see it with both local and national issues.

However, the people are now making their views known on the failings of politicians who promise much and deliver little.

Rishi Sunak promised the country five things.

To halve inflation, lower waiting lists, cut debt, grow the economy, and stop the boats.

He will fail to fulfil any of the five.

For which the British people will punish him and the Conservatives by consigning them to electoral oblivion.

The only sad thing is that Starmer won't be any better.

Thames Water must improve their service

In the past week, we have seen Sarah Bentley - chief executive of Thames Water - resign her position.

I put it down to the fact that she wasn't up to her job.

In my experience of dealing with Thames Water, she is not the only one.

The customer care department in particular are dreadful.

They have a couldn't care less attitude when it comes to dealing with their customers,.

I have, over the weekend, contacted my MP Robert Buckland to let him know of the service I have been given.

Isn't it time this awful company was nationalised?

Even fifty eight percent of Tory voters think that the water companies should be.
