PCSO collars multi-million Euro tax evader
POLICE Community Support Officer Kuy Harrison got more than he bargained for when he stopped a man in Cricklade.
Working on previous intelligence and having seen the car the man was driving before, PCSO Harrison approached the man.
After taking details from him, PCSO Harrison ran these through the Police National Database only to discover that there was a European Arrest Warrant out for the man in connection with a €4.7m tax evasion.
The arrest warrant was issued on September 4 this year in Frankfurt, Germany.
As a result, Afran Khan, 36, of Ferndale Road, Swindon, was subsequently arrested by a colleague of PCSO Harrison and has been sent to London to be deported.
PCSO Harrison said: “This goes to show that no matter how far you try and run, the law will eventually catch up with you.
“It appears that this man had been in the UK for some time having fled Germany.
“This is a great example of partnership working and goes to show that the European Arrest Warrant system clearly works well. After stopping the man, we were able to find out relatively quickly that he was wanted in connection with a multi-million pound tax evasion case back in Germany.
“It was certainly one of my more interesting jobs.”
