TELEVISION antiques expert Thomas Plant will be in Swindon this weekend offering residents the chance to have their antiques valued.

Thomas, an onscreen regular on the Antiques Road Trip, Bargain Hunt and Flog It! will be holding the valuation event at Jury’s Inn, Fleming Way on Saturday from 10am.

He said: “This is an opportunity for anyone to come along and find out more about that item in the cupboard, bottom drawer or attic.”

After the valuation morning, which runs until 1pm, Thomas will be giving a separate talk, An Audience With Thomas Plant.

He will share his experiences of taking part in television antiques series which regularly attract audiences of several million viewers.

The talk, which begins at 2pm, is a ticket-only event with tickets costing £5 each – the whole £5 will then be donated to Prospect Hospice. Tickets can be booked by calling 01635 580595 or visiting www.specialauctionservices.com.

TV Egghead Kevin Ashman

And Thomas isn’t the only television star heading to the town this month. TV Egghead Kevin Ashman will be hosting the popular Monday night quiz at the Steam Railway, and there will be the chance for up to five people to go head to head with the Egghead to win a cash prize.

Kevin is one of the world’s most successful quizzers and since 2002 has been a professional quizzer and an Egghead since 2003.

He has won most of the top-level quiz tournaments in which he has taken part, among them several World and European championships. Kevin also holds the high score record on Mastermind achieving 41 points in his heat with no passes.

On January 27, regular host Howard Taylor will be stepping aside as Kevin hosts some of the quiz rounds. Those who fancy going head to heard with Kevin can also win themselves £100.

Participants will be drawn from the those attending the Monday night quiz over the next three weeks, with each quizzer being given a unique draw ticket each night they attend.

There will also be an opportunity to meet Kevin and have your photograph taken.

The Steam Railway quiz takes place on Mondays from 9pm until approximately 10.30pm and there is a maximum of eight people per team – entry £2.50 per person – – which includes chilli and chips and a chance to win up to £1,000 with Jackpot Joker.
