WORLD title contender George Groves will keep his gloves off and his hands free for autographs during a day of fundraising for 19-month-old cancer sufferer Sebastian Murtough on Saturday.

The super-middleweight will be at The Sun Inn pub in Coate from 1pm, when fans can pay for autographs, photographs, and bid in an auction for a full training weekend with George’s trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick.

Signed memorabilia will also be available to purchase.

George never asks for a penny in exchange for autographs and photo opportunities, but he and Paddy have made an exception this weekend, when all proceeds will be donated towards a fund dedicated to the care of Sebastian.

The youngster is expecting a long stint in hospital after developing a rare form of cancer.

Last December, during a procedure to treat a kidney infection, doctors discovered a tumour on his left kidney.

Sebastian will need to go to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London for treatment before chemotherapy to tackle the cancer, which affects around 70 children each year in the UK.

Paddy said: “George doesn’t normally charge for autographs, but on this occasion every single penny will go to Sebastian and his family.

“George had been training in the gym when the kid’s uncle asked him to sign something for his nephew, and after we asked a little more about it we felt we could help.

“He does a lot of these things as someone who gets a lot of public attention. Whenever he is available to help, he does.

“We just want to help another human being. It’s just what we do in the gym too, we help each other, it’s a part of human nature.

“George Groves is a man in demand going for the world title. If anyone wants to meet him they should come down.”

Thoughts should also be spared for Sebastian’s family, according to Paddy.

“This is just as much for the child’s parents as it is for the kid.

“His parents have only just found out while the boy doesn’t even know yet because he’s too young,” he said.

“We just thought we could do something to take the weight off the parents’ shoulders.”

The Sun Inn was thanked by Paddy for supporting the event as well as providing accommodation as part of the training weekend people will bid for on the day.

Following the auction there will be live music from 3pm.
