ROYAL Wootton Bassett has been chosen to take part in a pilot scheme by Wiltshire Council to help those with dementia stay independent for longer.

The area already has a memory group and some of its members featured in the recently launched Wiltshire Voices: Living with Dementia film.

Now the group will be asked to contribute their ideas and experiences to help develop a programme to encourage dementia friendly places, towns and communities across the county.

Keith Humphries, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for public health, said: “Dementia has an impact on so many lives and we want people to contribute by telling us their views on this document.

“The aim of this strategy is for all people with dementia in Wiltshire to be treated as individuals, to be able to access the right care and support at the right time so they can live well with dementia, and remain independent and living at home for as long as possible in supportive and understanding communities.”
