SWINDON’S Green Party plans to adopt the Principles of Better Swindon to improve political standards across the town.

The Green Party expects that all the candidates presented for the council elections in May will meet the grassroots cross party group’s ethical standards.

Better Swindon was set up earlier this year to hold the local political system to account.

Talis Kimberley, one of the Green Party’s prospective candidates, said: “The standards demanded by Better Swindon are really just the sort of decent, straightforward behaviour I think we all expect of our elected representatives.

“It should concern the council that people feel that ideals like ‘open discussion and shared decision making’ or ‘acting with integrity and being accountable’ even need to be spelled out,”
