WHEN Stan Pajak takes to the streets of Brighton next week he’ll also be raising money for a very worthwhile cause.

On April 6 the Liberal Democrat councillor for Eastcott will pound the streets to raise money for Swindon Dial-A-Ride, a charity which helps to provide safe and affordable transport for elderly and disabled people.

Stan is a keen runner, and has taken part in several marathons over the years and has managed the Swindon Half Marathon on a number of occasions.

The 59-year-old from Old Town said: “I’m running the marathon for Dial-A-Ride because in 2006 around the same time of year I ran the London marathon for Dial-A-Ride too.”

Stan is hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity, which is volunteer led and set up to support those whose mobility impairment means that they are unable to use existing public transport.

Stan said: “Dial-A-Ride is one of those organisations that has been around for some time and it just does such fantastic work. It’s just one of those things which is good to support because of the support it lends to the community.

“Whenever you do something like this it’s nice to be able to use it to raise some money for charity.”

Stan’s connection with the charity goes back to when it started in the town 28 years ago when he was an original board member.

He said: “Obviously I would like to raise as much as I can. With Dial-A-Ride and their problems with funding they seemed like a natural choice.

“I’ve already managed to raise around £200 and if anyone wants to donate anything more the better.

“People can sponsor me or donate straight to Dial-A-Ride.”

As well as providing transport door-to-door the Dial-A-Ride bus can also help people to attend hospital appointments, and provide minibusses for use by voluntary and community groups.
