Burst main leaves 30 houses without water in Dixon Street

Swindon Advertiser: Burst main leaves 30 houses without water in Dixon Street Burst main leaves 30 houses without water in Dixon Street

THIRTY houses were without water in Dixon Street today, with streams flowing across surrounding roads after a main burst outside Swindon Moravian Church last night.

Residents in the Eastcott road could see the water gushing down the hill in Dixon Street, into Eastcott Hill and Crombey Street as early as 2.30am this morning.

Parked cars and the pavement outside the church were submerged with roadside rivers as deep as three inches in places.

Thames Water took its first calls after 5am, and an engineer was on-site at 9am turning off the supply of water at 9.50am.

It is not known what caused the pipe to burst, but repairs took place throughout the morning and water restored to the properties at 1pm, according to a Thames Water spokeswoman.

The hill in that area of the town has allowed the water as far down as Crombey Street. Materials at the site of the Regent Circus development were not affected significantly, but there were signs water had reached the site.
