YOUNG Liverpool fan Harry Standen has been left devastated after thieves stole his much treasured football memorabilia during a break-in on Friday night.

Harry, 11, is heartbroken after the thieves broke into his Taw Hill home and stole a shirt signed by his hero Steven Gerrard as well as boots signed by the Liverpool captain. A Playstation 4 games console was also taken along with an iPhone.

While the items are worth quite a lot in financial terms, it is their sentimental value which make it such a heavy loss for Harry and his family.

His dad Lee said: “The other items are replaceable but it is the football stuff which is not so simple. I am just gutted for Harry. He was in tears when he found out.

“I have photos of him with all the gear and you can tell how much it all means to him.

“Harry is a massive Liverpool fan. I have taken him up to Anfield to watch games and we have done the stadium tour.

“It is just a shame with Liverpool doing so well and Steven Gerrard being a legend at the club. That is stuff which Harry could have had for years but now it appears it is all gone.”

The break-in took place on Friday night. Lee had been out with friends and when he returned he immediately saw the precious items had been taken along with the other electrical goods.

“When I first got home I noticed the patio doors were wide open and the football stuff had all been taken,” said 43-year-old Lee. “The more I looked around the more I spotted stuff which had gone. I called the police and they arrived quickly and on Saturday they took fingerprints.

“It didn’t really sink in until the next morning that I had actually been broken into and I was so angry when I found out.

“The most gutting thing is it is Harry’s birthday on Tuesday. He has lost something which means a lot to him and he won’t have his playstation either.”

The police have asked for people to be vigilant in case they are offered the items for sale. The Liverpool shirt is unique in that there is a small ink smudge on the number eight.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “We would ask all people in the area to keep an eye out for these items. At this stage we have fingerprints and would ask anyone who has information to come forward by either calling 101 or ringing Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
