SWINDON Stroke Support Group is urgently calling for volunteers to join its committee.

The organisation was set up 33 years ago to improve stroke sufferers’ quality of life, as well as their carers’, and meets once a week.

With several of its committee members gone and its chairman of 28 years, Lin Hancock, about to stand down, the charity is urgently looking to recruit new volunteers to take their place.

Lilian Monk, Swindon Stroke group secretary, said: “The problem we have is that several members of the committee have retired and now our chair is retiring after 28 years, so we are in desperate need of help with finding a person who could help us run this long established group.

“We have tried to find someone who could help us through various ways but all to no avail. What we are worried about is that this valuable group for the community will have to close if we do not have people willing to run it.

“We meet every Thursday evening throughout the year between 7pm and 9pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Ermin Street. The weekly social evenings involves plenty of chatting over tea and biscuits with activities and events slotted into these evenings. The group also has occasional outings and an annual holiday and pride themselves on the fun and friendship enjoyed.”
