SUE Stevens has a spring in her step after managing to walk off three stone since starting her new lifestyle.

Ever since she retired from working in the financial industry three years ago, Sue has been taking part in council run health walks to get herself in shape.

Now, the 65-year-old from Sparcells is looking to spread the word of this lifestyle by organising her own walk.

When she was working, Sue led a hectic lifestyle but having been introduced to a health walk at the Link Centre, combined with a new diet and visits to the gym, she has never looked back.

Sue said: “I had a stressful, hectic job in financial services and let my health slip. Grabbing meals on the go, working long hours either sitting at my desk or travelling by car and not making time for regular exercise all took its toll and the weight piled on.

“It wasn’t just the physical downsides, I also felt so drained and lethargic.

“I found the whole health walk experience uplifting and could feel it was just what my body needed. We made it a regular fixture and I started going walking on my own too because it was so enjoyable.

“I had been eating too many of the wrong things and not enough of the right ones at irregular times.

“So now things like chocolates are kept for treats and I have three healthy balanced meals a day, like porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch and meat with veg for dinner. I feel so much better for it and have lots more energy.”

To mark the start of Swindon’s Get Moving Month, Sue will be running a free guided walk exploring the Seven Fields Nature Reserve on Saturday. She is urging anyone who fancies a relaxed morning in good company to come along.

“The wonderful thing about walking is you find all sorts of hidden gems and Seven Fields is certainly one of them.

“It’s a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air, stretch your legs and discover the endless benefits of walking. I hope people will come along and just try it,” said Sue.

“Everyone has a good chat, the time flies by and you feel fantastic afterwards.

“It’s great to be able to share this and encourage others to join in and enjoy the rewards too. Walking really has transformed my life and it can make a big difference for anyone, so my advice is to get out and try it.”

The walk will start at the Pinetrees Community Centre at 11am. It is free and there is no need to book.

Throughout May there will be a host of events and walks taking place around the town.
