FROM September aspiring musicians will be able to take a new music production foundation degree at New College.

The two-year qualification will involve the study and analysis of musical styles, music technology and software, as well as working towards a teaching qualification.

The qualification is being provided in conjunction with the Academy Of Music And Sound, and will also be offered at the academy centre in Stratton Road.

Academy principal Steve Ryan said: “This course is great news for young music producers, studio engineers and musicians, who have ambitions to broaden and continue their music education and take their first steps into the music industry.

“Swindon has a wealth of musical talent and it is only right to have this level of course available locally.

“New College has one of the best college music departments in the country.

“Combine this with the academy’s specialised music delivery and industry links and Swindon’s young musicians now have a fantastic opportunity to study and prepare correctly for a lifelong career in the music industry.”
