FORMER Swindon Town striker Nile Ranger was cleared of drink-drive charges at Newport Magistrates Court yesterday.

Ranger, 23, had stood accused of driving under the influence while travelling through Wales on the M4, after he was discovered asleep behind the wheel.

But he was found not guilty following a trial.

The striker recently had his contract with Swindon Town terminated by mutual consent in light of a number of allegations into his behaviour.

In March he was cleared of rape charges at Newcastle Crown Court after a trial by jury.

In 2012 he was arrested and charged with criminal damage after kicking down the door at the flat of his then girlfriend, and was later handed a conditional discharge after assaulting two police officers.

This year he was questioned by police on suspicion of criminal damage to a taxi in Liverpool, and is due to stand trial again in July on charges of criminal damage to the door of his Swindon flat in Gordon Gardens.
