NEXT week, Wiltshire Police will be hosting 11 delegates from the College Of Policing’s International Leadership Programme – a professional management and leadership programme targeted at managers from the police, law-enforcement agencies and the broader criminal justice sector across the world.

Chief Constable Patrick Geenty will welcome the students, who are all senior ranking officers in overseas police or military police services, to Devizes Headquarters on Monday and, after learning about the force structure and strategy, the students will begin activities to help them develop the skills needed to lead and manage policing at a strategic level.

Most of the ILP is classroom based but, in order to provide context, the Wiltshire force has been selected to host this week-long attachment so the students can see how the concepts they are being taught work in an operational policing environment.

Chief Superintendent Paul Mills, the head of crime development is overseeing the visit.

He said: “It’s not every day that policing colleagues from other countries get to see the work we do in the communities of Wiltshire.

“I’m really pleased that the force has the opportunity to work with the students on the International Leadership Programme and I hope the week will provide them with a chance to observe the many elements of the British policing model in practice.”
