SUCCESSES are being seen in the crackdown against graffiti in North Swindon, as one offender is being dealt with after being caught last week.

A new tag, RAID, has been identified in the Abbey Meads area over the past week.

Officers are appealing for residents to contact them if they see any further instances by taking photographs and sending them to the neighbourhood policing team so they can compile a profile of the offences.

PC Karen Hunt, the community beat manager for North Swindon, is investigating the incidents.

Most have been found close together near Wynwards Road but others may have spread further afield.

“I have managed to identify a new tag, which spells out RAID,” she said.

“They are relatively new and we have managed to positively identify four of them so far which we have taken photographs of.

“We would encourage people in the area to keep an eye out for these tags so if they spot any new ones we can build up a database and create a map of the area.

“The ones we have identified are quite close together in the Abbey Meads area, and I am in the process of gathering the evidence to apprehend the offender.

“There is no doubt these are the same person.

“We first came across these around a week or 10 days ago.

“One person has already been apprehended in connection with a different tag in the area and we will be giving updates as soon as we have results.”

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “There has been a spate of graffiti in the North Swindon area in recent weeks.

“PC Karen Hunt is currently investigating a tag which has appeared in a number of places in Abbey Meads.

“Meanwhile, we are aware of tags elsewhere in North Swindon and an offender is currently being dealth with.”

Anyone with any information about these incidents should contact PC Hunt via 101 or email the North Swindon policing team on swindonnorthnpt@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk.
