ASPIRING musicians and established performers will be bringing another successful Old Town Festival to a close tomorrow.

There will be 17 artists playing at the event being held at The Bowl between 1pm and 10.30pm.

Festival chairman Trevor Smith said: “The concert is a great way to bring the festival to a close and actually it is my favourite event as it is a little more chilled out and the Bowl is a nice place for people to come to and enjoy a few drinks and a good mix of musicians.

“It is about showing what talent there is around through youngsters like the Commonweal Jazz Band and acts that have a higher profile such as Liam O’Leary and Rockers Reunited.

“It is also great that all the performers play free of charge as they understand how important events like these are to the community.

“I’ve also heard that the weather is going to be nice, which is a big benefit.”

The annual festival, which began on June 27, has boasted a packed programme of activities, including a Caribbean night, a piano recital and its biggest event, The Lawn Family Fun Day.

Trevor said: “Last weekend was really good and the Lawn event was fantastic “And I felt it was great that we managed to incorporate the national Armed Forces Day into it.”

Looking to the future, Trevor, who runs The Liden Arms, will be stepping down as chairman but committee members are keen to build on this year’s success.

Trevor, who has served as chairman for two years, said: “I’m very proud of what we have achieved but standing down is going to be a huge weight off my shoulders as I run a business, have a young family and have other charitable commitments.

“It has been a privilege to do this job and there have been some brilliant changes over the last couple of years with the team cutting the costs to run the festival, which was important.

“The committee are keen to hear from anyone who’d like to stand as chairman or to be part of the committee for next year.”
