FROM a stroll to a sprint, Swindon residents are being urged to put their best foot forward and raise funds for the Stroke Association.

The charity is holding a Resolution Run and a Step Out for Stroke event in Lydiard Park on Sunday.

Resolution runners will set off on their chosen distance of 5k, 10k or 15k at 10.30am, and with no set finish time, the run is suitable for people of all running abilities. All participants will receive a T-shirt and medal, and there are water stations available on the course.

The Step Out for Stroke walk will begin at 2pm, and is open to the whole community. People taking part can cover any distance, from 10 steps to completing five laps of the mile-long course.

Jackie Southon, community and events fundraising manager, said: “Stroke can happen to anyone at any time, but at least half of strokes could be prevented if people made simple lifestyle changes, such as keeping blood pressure under control and exercising more.

“Taking part in the Swindon Resolution Run or Step Out is a simple step towards lowering your risk of stroke. And those Resolution Runners who feel energetic can take part in the fundraising walk after completing the run.

“Runners and walkers of all levels and abilities are welcome on the day. At the Stroke Association we believe in life after stroke. The funds raised on the day will help us to be there for even more stroke survivors and their families.”

Online registration is now closed for both events but you can register on the day. For more information about entering or volunteering, visit www.stroke.org.uk/fundraise
