DURING the past few months Covingham Parish Council has received numerous complaints about overflowing dog-mess bins in the parish.

The problem was a result of the contractor being unable to empty them at the normal contracted time. This was exacerbated by some inconsiderate dog owners still attempting to place their dogs waste into overflowing bins.

At the last parish council meeting the council reminded residents that the Dog Fouling of Land Act of 1996 was repealed in 2005 and replaced by the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act, which included a section where dog faeces can be placed in the dog owner’s domestic waste bins.

Since the council provides many waste bins around the parish – which cost t£2,000 a year to maintain – walkers are asked to take their dog mess home with them if the bins are already full and dispose in their own refuse bin.
