THE town centre is the place to visit on Saturday for the First World war commemoration event.

Shoppers, passers-by, schools, groups and societies are invited to join in a host of activities, including a traditional street party in Wharf Green with music and dance dating from the last 100 years and films on the Big Screen.

You can also try your hand at bread making, the old fashioned way, in Theatre Square.

There will be a First World War British Army recruitment stand with weapons, posters, equipment and accessories in the Parade or you can clamber over large inflatables in Canal Walk or try out the climbing wall in Havelock Street.

People can also visit the Wall of Remembrance at the Brunel shopping centre.

The memory wall, on the upper floor of the Brunel Arcade, will be adorned with hundreds of poppies made by children from Goddard Park Primary and St Mary’s School, and hundreds more crocheted by by Stitch And Bitch group, plus poems from the war.

Below the Wall of Remembrance is a poppy mural,by Nicky Tritton, of Swindon Artists’ Forum.

There will be dancing and music on the stage at Wharf Green from 11am to 3pm. Email
