THREE former Ferndale Secondary School pupils put their heads together at Twelve Oaks Golf Club yesterday to mastermind their plan to reunite ex-schoolmates.

Jenny Weeks, Alan Moss and Douglas Grant, who owns the leisure facility, met up to discuss a strategy for getting 200 ex-pupils together next month.

The trio were involved in the class of ‘59s last reunion in 2009, when a group met at Rudi’s, in the town centre, but they want more people this time around.

“We have got 65 people confirmed so far, which is pretty good when you consider people keep dying at our age,” said Jenny, 70, whose maiden name was Nutley.

“We are still searching for people, especially the girls we can’t get hold of. A lot of them have changed names and addresses.

“It’s been five years since our last meet and we are trying to do this all over again.

“Our time at Ferndale was special, which is proven when you think it’s been 55 years and we all still want to meet up and talk.

“We are meeting again this morning to thrash out who we have or haven’t got confirmed.

“On the internet I know quite a few people, which has helped a great deal in tracking people.

“Alan has also been using online directories and actually knocking on people’s doors for leads. Some people are so elusive.”

Jenny, a retired credit controller of Derwent Drive in Stratton, is appealing for all former pupils who attended the school between 1955 and 1959 to get in contact.

The reunion is scheduled for 7pm on Friday, September 19 at Twelve Oaks, in Highworth.

“It’s just a huge get-together. We just come in and talk to one another. It’s bound to be a bit of a party and we are hoping to get as many as we can,” Jenny said.

The first time the old gang were back together was in 1993, when they gathered at the leisure centre in Grange Drive.

The reunions have been attracting schoolmates from beyond Swindon too, with ex-pupils from Devon and Clevedon already saying they will attend.

“Some of these people I haven’t seen for so many years,” said Jenny.
