PROSPECT Hospice has a wide range of fundraising events and initiatives to suit all kinds of tastes through the autumn months, starting with its annual garden fete in its grounds in Wroughton on September 6.
The charity, which last year cared for and supported more than 5,700 people from across north Wiltshire, will open its gates to the public for a traditional fete featuring stalls, games and refreshments, with hundreds of people expected to come along and have an afternoon of fun.
A free park and ride service will be provided by Thames-down Transport from Nation-wide, Pipers Way, with the first bus leaving at 11.45am. The last bus will leave at 4.15pm.
Music and dance are a key theme of the local hospice’s forthcoming fundraising programme, and supporters are asked to sign up for its annual Let’s Dance fundraiser, which invites couples to take dance lessons from October in readiness for a gala performance on Friday, November 28.
The charity will also benefit this autumn from two very different fundraising concerts; the first is a fifties Rock’n’Roll night at Swindon Town FC’s Legends Lounge on Friday, September 19, featuring hits from the 50s and the world’s number one Elvis Presley tribute, Mark Summers. For tickets at £12 call Steve or Natalie on 07796 137770.
The second concert is in November and is a Last Night of the Proms evening at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre. Organised by the Rotary Club of Swindon Old Town, this event on Sunday, November 15, features Swindon Young Musicians and the Waterloo Band of Rifles playing flag-waving favourites including Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem. Tickets are available from the Wyvern Theatre or swindon-theatres.co.uk at £16.
For something completely different, hospice supporters are asked to sign up for its Fire and Glass Walk event on Sunday, November 2.
Described as the ultimate challenge, participants walk over burning hot coals and razor sharp broken glass. Visit www.prospect-hospice. net/fireandglass to register.
