A MAN found guilty of a series of sex assaults in Swindon has been jailed.

Michael Sean Saunders, 51, of Swindon, was jailed for 17 years after being found guilty on three counts of attempted rape and three counts of indecent assault.

This case relates to historic sexual offences involving one female victim.

Detective Constable Michael O’Sullivan from Swindon CID said: “Saunders has taken no responsibility for his heinous crimes and forced his victim into reliving her ordeal throughout the trial process.

“Saunders abused his victim over a number of years for his own twisted sexual gratification.

“This abuse is likely to stay with her for the rest of her life. I would like to praise the bravery of the victim in this case and her courage in coming forward and reporting the abuse she suffered.

“I hope this case acts as an example to other victims of sexual assault that all information given to us will be acted upon and investigated thoroughly.

“This case highlights Wiltshire Police’s dedication to work with our partner agencies to safeguard children and vulnerable people in our county.

“The sentence handed down by the judge reflects the serious nature of these crimes and the impact they have had on the victim in this case.

“I would urge anyone who has been the victim of any sexual assault to contact Wiltshire Police immediately – we have dedicated officers who are specially trained to help those who have been abused.

“Anyone wishing to report a crime should contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.”
