DEDICATED Royal Air Forces Association volunteer Ena Day has been honoured for her decades serving the organisation.

Ena, 94, has represented the Swindon branch for nearly 60 years and was nominated in the volunteers section of the Third Sector Excellence Awards. The ceremony took place in London on Thursday, September 18, with the judges highly commending her efforts.

Ena has served as the branch’s honorary welfare officer and collects for charity’s Wings Appeal.

Nick Bunting, the RAF association’s secretary general, said: “The association prides itself on the dedication and commitment of its volunteers, so it is particularly satisfying to see an external organisation recognise Ena’s achievements.

“Whether as a volunteer or paid employee, the Association is grateful for the great efforts of so many people.”

Ena served with the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War as direction finding officer. She trained at RAF Hawkringe, in Kent, and was later posted to RAF Manston.
