ADVICE to help keep older people safe from fire risks will be among information on offer at a special event in Swindon.
The Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will host a Senior Wellbeing Event at the town station, in Drove Road, today.
Aimed at anyone over of 50, the event will feature a range of displays and information stands, covering everything from home safety, to finances, to health.
Among the organisations taking part will be Swindon Council, Wiltshire Council, Bobby Van Trust, Wiltshire Police, Nationwide Building Society, Specsavers and Wiltshire Farm Foods.
Admission to the event, which runs from 10.30am until 2.30pm, is free and there will be refreshments available.
The Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA) has organised the Ageing Safely Week to highlight the importance of protecting older people. Group manager Kathy Collis, from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s community safety department, said: “Statistics show that the risk of dying in a fire for those aged 65 and over is more than twice as high as the average risk for all ages.”
