AFTER defeating the sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood and his beloved Marian lived happily after – or so we were led to believe.
Ha Ha Hood! And The Prince of Leaves, the latest laugh-out-loud production from the Ha Ha! team, will set the record straight when it opens at the Wyvern Theatre next month.
Set ten years after a messy divorce, Robin and Marian are forced back together to fight their nemesis once more.
Marian, played by Su Pollard, is far from the innocent love interest she once was and has grown into a world-weary divorcee – more matron than maid.
But before the cast take to the stage they had one last skill to learn, namely mastering the art of archery.
Thankfully, Swindon Supermarine Bowmen’s Erin Prior came to the rescue and gave Su, along with her fellow actor Ben Langley, who plays Robin, a much-needed lesson in how to safely shoot an arrow.
“This is EastEnders in Sherwood Forest,” said comedy icon Su, most famous for hit BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi.
“It makes a nice change to have a twist on the characters of folklore. It’s so much fun.”
Ben, who wrote the script, added: “This is the tale of what happens after the story we all know and love. It puts a spin on everything. Robin fell on hard times and Marian is an NHS nurse and when the sheriff is released from prison they rise up against him to hilarious consequences.”
- Ha! Ha! Hood will be at the Wyvern Theatre on Saturday, November 1.To book tickets go to swindontheatres.co.uk or call the Ticket Office on 01793 524 481
