INVESTIGATORS are already discovering and analysing items of interest in Christopher Halliwell’s former home in Nythe.

On Monday, more than 40 specialist police officers began searching a former address of the convicted killer in connection with the death of Becky Godden- Edwards.

Information has come to light linking the property, in Ashbury Avenue, which was owned by Halliwell prior to 2007, with the murder of Becky, who was discovered dead in a field in Eastleach in 2011, more than eight years after she disappeared.

Det Ch Insp Sean Memory, head of major crime and lead investigator, said: “Activity at the house in Ashbury Avenue continued yesterday with over 40 staff members working on the investigation.

“On Monday, blood dogs from South Wales Police scoured the property and forensically trained crime scene investigators commenced a finger tip search.

“We can confirm a number of items of interest were found at the house and have been sent for analysis by experts.

“Detectives have been speaking to residents in the area and gathering information regarding Becky’s disappearance. This work will also continue throughout today along with the poster campaign.”

Since renewed appeals for information came from DCI Memory and his team, he has found a welcome influx of new information.

Off the back of the latest appeal regarding a silver Volvo S80, which is believed to have been in the Swindon area across 2002 and 2003, two witnesses provided significant information.

There was also an update from DCI Memory on the pond searches at Ramsbury, where more than 600 items were recovered in or near the pond, which are all now being analysed.

“People have come forward with helpful information who had not contacted us previously as they didn’t think it would be relevant,”

he said.

“I cannot stress strongly enough how important it is to let us know any information you have, as the smallest detail may be the key to justice for Becky and her family.

“We know Becky was last seen on December 27, 2002, and we need people to come forward with any information about where she was in early 2003. Did you see Becky over the New Year period?

“I would like to reiterate our thanks to the occupants of the house, who have no involvement in this investigation, and the local community for their assistance and co-operation.

“I anticipate that the road closure at Ashbury Avenue will remain in place until the end of the week.”

Halliwell is serving a life sentence for the murder of Sian O’Callaghan in 2011.

He admitted killing Becky, but his confession was ruled inadmissible when it was revealed he was not cautioned before leading police to her body.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or call Crimestopperswhere information may be left anonymously.
