A HARD-HITTING puppet show teaching teenagers the importance of staying safe on the roads came to New College this week.

Routes – The Teenage Highway Code was delivered to students at New College in support of Road Safety Week, by specialist puppeteer Steve Wright.

It told the real stories of young people whose lives have been shattered by reckless driving, and it highlights the dangers of peer pressure, drink driving, speeding and distraction.

Corinne Li, road safety project manager at Michelin, who took the show to the college, said: “Young drivers are the most at-risk age group on the roads, so we felt it was important we reach out to them this Road Safety Week to highlight the consequences of their actions as they begin to take to the roads.

“Educating young people about the importance of road safety is just one way we can help them to protect themselves, and others, while they are out and about.”

Also to coincide with Road Safety Week, Michelin is also releasing a series of daily thought-provoking videos across its social media channels.

The videos feature some of the harrowing real-life experiences told in the puppet show of young people who have been affected by dangerous driving.

All Road Safety Week videos can be seen on the Michelin Facebook page www.facebook.com/MichelinUK and Twitter @MichelinTyres, as well as on their YouTube channel.
