A TOWN centre store has helped raise £3,200 for the NSPCC through a combined 80 hours of sponsored cycling.

Last Friday, 10 BrightHouse stores in Wales and the West Country set up a stationary bike in each of the stores, which was in continuous use from 9am to 5pm, with volunteers taking turns to cycle, and with deputy manager Dave Knight riding all day with customer accounts advisor Chris Lunt taking over for lunch breaks.

Regional manager Richard Hunt, made his way round all 10 sites, including Swindon’s, throughout the day and spent half an hour on the bike in each of the stores.

He said: “It was fantastic to see the BrightHouse teams across the region taking part in such a great cause and having loads of fun in the process.

"We are proud to have raised over £3,200 for the NSPCC’s vital work to protect children across the UK and prevent abuse.”

As well as Swindon, stores in Newport, Merthyr Tydfil, Bristol, Bedminster, Blackwood, Weston-super-Mare, Newbury, Pontypool and Ebbw Vale took part.

Other fundraising activities also included raffles to give away children’s bikes, mobile phones and headphones, all of which helped raise awareness for the charity.

Since its partnership began with the NSPCC in 2010, BrightHouse has raised over £456,000 for the charity, with the retailer match-funding money raised by colleagues.

This year, the partnership was renewed for a further three years.
