IMPORTANT skills for life have been learned by pupils at Bishopstone Primary School who took part in an award scheme backed by the Duke of Cambridge.
The basics of first aid and resuscitation, leadership, public service and teamwork were all part of the Junior Princes Award programme won by the youngsters from Years 4,5 and 6.
Head teacher Emma Lindsay said: “We decided to do it because we wanted to give the children a broad range of skills that they could use and adapt for anything.”
They also had a class sleep over and took part in a community project using the school’s allotment.
In fact the school was so pleased with it that next year it is trialling a new, similar scheme for even younger children in years one, two and three.
“We teach the children a lot of knowledge but it is quite important they have skills like resilience,” she said.
“Skills for life is very much part of the school’s ethos.”
