ENGINEERS are still working to repair a gas pipe that was damaged by an agricultural vehicle causing a large scale gas leak in Blunsdon this afternoon.
Darren Keighley, Wales and West Utilities Gas emergency service manager for Swindon said: “Earlier, as a precaution, one home was evacuated and the emergency services closed the B4019 road at its junction with Sams Lane.
“However, the residents have returned to their home and the B4019 has reopened.”
“While both lanes are now open, temporary barriers are in place at the side of the road to keep our workers safe as they continue to work on the damaged pipe.
“I would like to thank members of the public for their patience as we work to repair the damaged pipe as safely and as quickly as we can.
A fire crew from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene of the gas leak on Broad Bush.
Mr Keighley said: “We were alerted to reports of a gas leak at a property in the Blunsdon area of Swindon this afternoon and immediately sent an engineer to the scene.
“On arrival, we found a third party had damaged a gas main supplying a property in the area.”
As a precaution emergency services closed the B4019 road at its junction with Sams Lane.
