A FUNDRAISER in aid of terminally-ill James Baker has been organised by a close friend who has also battled cancer.

Steve Vincent has organised a family fun day at Charrin's Bar & Grill at Royal Wootton Bassett

James and Steve have known each since 2014 when they were both undergoing cancer treatment. Steve is now in remission.

"We were both diagnosed in 2014, I had bone cancer called osteosarcoma. James reached out to me on Facebook, he was really worried about his treatment and we got chatting from there,” said Steve, 22.

“I know what he’s feeling and I know what he went through so I wanted to do whatever I could to help.”

James, who lives in Moresby Street, Westlea, was first diagnosed with testicular cancer two years ago, the day before his 24th birthday.

He underwent three operations, as well as chemotherapy before getting the all-clear, but the cancer later returned to his lungs, chest and stomach.

Doctors then confirmed the devastating news that his cancer had spread to his brain and that it is so rare they only get a case like his once a year.

Within hours of an online campaign being launched, £5,000 had been donated. The total now stands at £14,350 thanks to more than 600 people.

The 26-year-old is now in Germany undergoing alternative treatment which he hopes will stop the cancer spreading

“I’ve spoken to James and he’s keeping his spirits up and feeling really positive,” said Steve.

The event will take place on October 15 and run from 11am to 1am. It will feature raffle, tombola, live music, DJ, Victorian hair styling, trampoline and bouncy castles.

Boxer Luke ‘The Duke’ Watkins will also headline an family fun day at Lydiard Park Academy on October 2 from 12noon to 4pm. All proceeds will go to James’ appeal.
