A CHILDREN’S charity has received an extra boost with the donation of £100 from the Wroughton Carnival Committee.

On Friday carnival organiser Jenny Packham visited the NSPCC Swindon Service Centre in Little London Court, Old Town, to find out more about the charity and to hand over the cheque.

Jenny said: “We have supported the NSPCC in the past, so it was fantastic to have them back at the Carnival this year.

“The work they do to help vulnerable families and children in Swindon and beyond is so important - we were delighted to make a contribution and have invited them back for 2017.”

The Wroughton Carnival Committee invited the NSPCC to the annual event on July 2, where they manned the ‘Lost Children’s Tent’ and spoke to members of the public about their services.

The efforts of children’s practitioner Jan Davidson and volunteers Penelope Wood, Marion Cook and Karen Jankinson on the day led the committee to donate £100 to the charity after the village festivities.

Jan said: “Thankfully this year there were no lost children to help, but it was wonderful to be part of such a terrific event. We enjoyed chatting to visitors about the work we do and the services we provide, handed out leaflets and did a bucket collection.

“Thank you so much to Jenny and the committee for their kind donation. It is lovely to receive support from the local community, who really value our work.”
