HE’S starred in a myriad of theatre, film and television productions but now Adam Ewan is bringing a taste of the industry to Swindon with a new acting school to inspire others.

The 41-year-old, who now lives in Buckingham but was born and bred in Swindon and went to school in Royal Wootton Bassett, always knew he wanted to be an actor.

His career has seen him enjoy stints in ITV and BBC series, such as He Kills Coppers, The Living and the Dead, Holby City, and Fleabag.

And among his ‘pinch me’ moments include script reading with David Jason, best known for playing Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses, and Tim Curry of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

But Adam’s journey to his dream career was far from easy. Despite having spells in performances at the Wyvern as a youngster, such as playing Adrian Mole when he was 14, Adam was underwhelmed by the lack of drama classes in the town and did not know where to start to get his breakthrough.

He was part of amateur dramatic groups and in all his school productions, but was keen to sink his teeth into something more serious.

“This was before the internet so you didn’t have the information so readily,” he said.

Instead he opted for careers at Thames Water for nine years and later Nationwide before aged 30 he bit the bullet and beat off thousands for a place at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which was opened by Laurence Olivier in 1946.

Now, after a successful career under his belt, Adam is offering weekly acting classes for over 18s at Wilkes Academy in Westmead every Wednesday from 7pm to 8.30pm. He does voice coaching at the venue already.

“A lot of people don’t want to give up their life for drama school and just want classes,” he said. “Which is why I wanted to set them up.”

Adam already runs classes in Milton Keynes which has members aged 18 to 74. His first class of Ignition Acting in Swindon starts this Wednesday and costs £10 a session.

People can expect lessons on improvisation, line learning, stage combat, voice coaching and more, plush tips on speaking different accents from Russian to South African. He also wants to encourage people who lack confidence to give it a go.

“My favourite thing about acting it just being able to create any world and become somebody completely different than who you are,” he said. “It’s quite liberating.”
