Market manager Kardien Gerbrands talks about Swindon farmers' markets

AT this Sunday’s market at the designer outlet in Swindon, you will find Stainswick Farm rapeseed oil on the Pinkbox stall.

Rapeseed oil is widely produced in the UK but didn’t feature as a “local” product at farmers’ market before 2010, since when a “cold press” revolution has taken place and a number of small artisan cold pressers started selling their product direct to us customers.

Stainswick Farm began production in 2011 and has developed a great range of products including the Gold star winning Honey and Mustard salad dressing, the Oak Smoked oil and Truffle oil. The farm is located on the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire border and the Sanderson Family are the fourth generation of arable farmers farming the land. The seeds are brought into the pressing area, cleaned, slow pressed and the oil is bottled on site. Slow cold pressing, without the use of heat or chemicals, has the benefit of retaining the oil’s innate goodness.

The golden oil is versatile as it has a subtle nutty taste which is not as overpowering as olive oil. It can be used for everything from salad dressings, to stir frying and baking and is packed with goodness.

You can also find some lovely handmade ceramic oil bottles on the Vineyard Pottery stall at the market which will make a lovely gift to go with the oil. The market runs from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
