POLICE officers are reminding people that it doesn’t have to be an amnesty day to hand in dangerous items after they collected a number of knives from a resident in Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday.

In a post on the Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Police Facebook page, officers said: “Police were contacted to collect knives from a member of the public living in Royal Wootton Bassett.

“It doesn’t have to be an amnesty day to hand dangerous items into the police.

“Please contact 101 if you are in possession of any dangerous items which you’d like us to collect from you.”

Following on from the knives that were handed in, officers arrested a 35-year-old man in Cricklade for a public order offence and being in possession of a bladed article, a samurai sword, in public.
