ALL eyes were on the sky as a stunning sunset over Swindon last night caught people's imagination.

Ken Mumford and wife Tricia said they saw the cloud formation for many miles as they travelled from Witney to Swindon, eventually taking pictures from a spot near Wanborough Church.

"We really noticed it when we diverted off the A420 and journeyed via Bourton, Hinton Parva and Wanborough," said Ken.

And when we posted Kaur Aujla's picture of the sunset over Freshbrook the Advertiser's Facebook page received more than 40 pictures from across the town and beyond.

It is thought that a clash of warm and cold air may have been responsible for the amazing cloud formations which caught the last of the sun's rays.

Temperatures in Britain varied by more than 15 degrees yesterday morning, with the mercury passing 9C in Scotland and falling to -6.5 in south-east England.

Cloudy skies resulted in milder weather in the north, while clear skies in the south meant a much chillier day.

Forecaster Craig Small said of the wide range of temperatures: "It can happen at this time of year, any time between autumn and spring."
