RUGBY Union player Thinus Delport spent a day with students at Commonweal School recently as part of the Sky Schools Sports Project.

For the third year running, the school signed up in the national scheme which helps disabled students integrate into main stream PE.

The project assigns a mentor to all schools.

"We were delighted to be assigned Thinus," said Sam James – Physical Disabilities Outreach Worker, The Hub, Commonweal School.

The project assigns a mentor to all schools. We were delighted to be assigned Thinus Delport. Rugby Union player. He played for various UK clubs including Worcester Warriors, and playing internationally for South Africa.

The international player for South Africa and Worcester Warriors told students about growing up in a South African farming community and the struggles he had to face in working towards his dream of playing for South Africa.

"He really engaged all the students and they loved all of his clips of him playing and they loved seeing the Hakka. He went through five key skills to success that the students could take with them in their studies in school and on-going further more in their future careers," said the spokesman.

"Thinus also arranged an activity session with the students to help them to understand the importance of team work.

"This was great to see all the students working together and seeing leadership qualities emerge that may have never been picked up. They even got to work together to create their own Hakka.

"Thinus was brilliant with them and a great energy to have in school. All the students loved having him in and they all got so much out of the day."

Thinus said: "I loved their enthusiasm and their willingness to try new things. They were fantastic to work with."
