A MAN was punched repeatedly through the window of his own car on Saturday after a narrowly-avoided collision led to an episode of road rage.

Video has emerged showing the incident, which took place in Garrard Way near to the Greenbridge Retail Park on Saturday afternoon.

The footage, which was captured shortly after 2.30pm by the passenger of a passing car, shows how two vehicles were left in the middle of the road while the incident unfolded.

While the person filming did not manage to capture what led to the confrontation, the Adver understands that a lone driver in a silver Astra got in the way of a white transit van as it came down Garrard Way in the direction of Drakes Way.

This caused the white van to stop and led to words being exchanged between those in the van and the driver of the car.

The passenger in the van, a white man of slim build, wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans, then jumped out of his door and went over to the driver’s window.

Leaning against the door to prevent it from being opened, he threw six heavy punches through the open window directed at the Astra driver.

In the meantime, the driver of the van, a thicker set and older white man, got out and picked up what appeared to be a ‘surveyor’s wheel’ which consists of a small wheel attached to a pole or stick.

The Astra driver eventually managed to force open the door of the car and jumped out to confront the man who had been punching him.

He was then struck by the larger man using the ‘surveyor’s wheel’ tool.

The altercation moved away from the vehicles and towards the kerb where the Astra driver was forced back into a bush.

When he moved back towards the car he was punched again, this time the footage shows it clearly connecting with his face.

As he moved back toward his car, the Astra driver can be seen putting his hand to his face and remonstrating with the two men who have assaulted him.

Wiltshire Police says they are aware of the incident and have seen the video.

The Adver understands that an officer has been assigned to lead the investigation.

A spokesman for the force said: “We are aware of this incident and will be investigating.

“We’d like to hear from any witnesses."
