A WOMAN accused of swerving her car recklessly down numerous Swindon streets on Halloween and assaulting two police officers failed to turn up to court after barricading herself in a prison shower.

Maria Constantin, 37, is said to have driven dangerously on Fleming Way, Victoria Road, Marlborough Road, Queens Drive, County Road and Manchester Road – among others – on October 31 this year.

The next day she allegedly assaulted Detention Officer Lewis and Police Constable Plaister.

Constantin, of Faringdon Road, Swindon, appeared in court on Thursday, November 2 but the case was adjourned so an interpreter could be accessed for her to make a bail application.

But she failed to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court a day later via video link from Eastwood Park prison after locking officers out of her bathroom.

“She is currently naked and barricaded in her shower,” a prison officer told the court on video link when her case was due to be heard.

She added: “Ms Constantin can speak very good English.”

The court was later informed that Constantin, who is yet to enter pleas, would not be attending court for her hearing that day.

Her case has been relisted to take place tomorrow at Swindon Magistrates' Court.
