EGGS of all varieties have been enjoyed by children, adults and even animals over the Easter break.

A mound of chocolate eggs was delivered to Headway’s headquarters in Upper Stratton to the delight of its users this week.

Easter got off to a great start for the brain injury charity thanks to Zurich Community Trust which sent 60 eggs to the organisation to mark the holiday.

Centre manager Jane Weston said the treats had brightened up users’ weekly visits.

“Unexpected gifts such as these lift everyone’s spirits, and bring some additional springtime sunshine to their day.

The eggs were received with such enthusiasm and it is nice to see everyone’s face light up when we distribute them at the end of each day.

“We are very grateful to Zurich Community Trust for thinking about Headway this Easter”.

Gabriella Whittington, who attends Headway each week, said: “Thank you so much for the Easter eggs. It was such a lovely thought.”

Meanwhile, the meerkats at Cotswold Wildlife Park have been tucking in to their own special eggs.

Chris Kibbey, section head of primates at the park, said: “Who doesn’t love Easter? Chicks, lambs, nice weather and of course Easter eggs. This Easter week seemed the ideal time to give our group of meerkats some decorated eggs as enrichment.

“The ostrich eggs have mealworms inside and the chicken eggs are hard boiled.

“By rolling the eggs around, the Meerkats need to work hard to receive their reward. This keeps them busy and helps stimulate them.”

Over at the Steam railway museum, children have been getting a taste of what it is like to drive a steam train as well as taking part in a special Easter Bunny Trail.

Youngsters were treated to a small chocolate prize for taking part.

Coun Garry Perkins, cabinet member for the economy, regeneration and culture, said: “Easter is a wonderful time to take a day out with the family.

“As well as hunting for Easter bunnies on the Easter Trail, special activities have included a mind-stretching free alphabet challenge and a chance to meet the railway workers.”
