ABSTRACT art inspired some visually striking designs as children took up shirt-making at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery yesterday.

Around 10 budding artists copied works on display at the venue or created their own pieces using white tops as their canvas during a quirky workshop.

The Design a T-shirt session aimed to introduce a young audience to abstract paintings and allow children to demonstrate their own ability to capture colour and emotions through art.

“It was very good fun and the children really enjoyed it,” said Nicki Western, marketing manager at Swindon Museum and Art gallery in Old Town.

“It was about encouraging children to show their artistic skills by designing an abstract T-shirt. We asked them to pick their favourite piece of art from what was on display for their design. Some of them were young so they just used the same colours as the piece they had chosen, some tried to copy it and some created their own design. It was also about interpretation and showing that when you look at a painting you see something completely different.”
