A SWINDON teenager took to the skies to raise money for a Spanish charity which helped his grandfather.
Lee Evans, 18, of Castle Dore, Freshbrook, completed a sponsored skydive at Charteris Airfield this summer, raising more than £1,000 in memory of Peter Davis.
Originally from Sheffield, Mr Davis, who died last year after a battle with cancer, spent 10 years of his retirement in Moriara, Spain, with wife Carol.
And while there, he was helped by a charity called HELP, of Denia and the Marina Alta, which provided translators and equipment during his illness and continues to help ex-patriots in the region.
Lee, a former Lydiard Park Academy and Cirencester College pupil, said the help the charity gave his grandfather inspired him to give something back.
“It was a great relief to my grandmother when the charity became involved,” said Lee, who works at Jungle Parc, in Lydiard Park.
“I didn’t realise how people such as translators were so essential in hospitals when in a foreign country, especially in such stressful circumstances.”
After completing his dive, Lee travelled to Moriara with parents Justin and Karen, where he handed over a cheque for €1,120 to the charity.
