Firefighters spent the early hours of yesterday tackling a blaze at STS Motor Services in Shrivenham in which two classic cars were destroyed.

Six fire crews from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue, including two crews from Stratton Fire Station and a water carrier from Ramsbury, attended the fire in Townsend Road at about 3am.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by 6.24am and returned to the site for a re-inspection at 8am. While the cause of the fire is as yet unknown, it is not being treated suspiciously.

Royal Wootton Bassett community beat manager Hayley Hardie will join the team of officers shaving their heads in support of colleague Mel Neal.

The 31-year-old Chippenham police officer is due to undergo brain surgery next month, and in solidarity several of her colleagues will shave their heads on January 12.

A Cube mountain bike was stolen on Wednesday, December 17, between 5.15pm and 6.20pm from outside a flat on Wordsworth Drive, Stratton.

The cycle is white, with red and black detail on the frame.

St John Ambulance is calling for nominations from the South West for the St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes awards.

The annual star-studded event celebrates the nation’s life savers and, after a record number of nominations last year, the nation’s leading first aid charity is asking the public to get in touch and tell them about friends, family members, colleagues, and even strangers who have saved lives or championed first aid.

Nominations are still open to nominate individuals and groups in Wiltshire’s 2014 Public Health Awards.

The awards celebrate the work of organisations and individuals involved in improving health across Wiltshire. Anyone who is helping people live healthier lives can be nominated.

These could include exercise classes in village halls, healthy eating programmes in work canteens, activities taking place in schools, parks or leisure centres.
