Clean sweep for Marlborough's Amor but England still lose
6:00am Tuesday 13th August 2013 in Sport
BEN Amor recorded a clean sweep of wins in the Boys’ Home International but England missed out on a third successive title.
The Marlborough junior captain was in fine form at Forest Pines in Lincolnshire on his national boys debut, as England faced Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the round robin tournament.
The national under 18s champion continued his winning ways with victory in his three foursomes matches alongside Harry Ellis of Meon Valley.
Amor followed that up with triumphs in his three singles matches, his sixth win coming on the final afternoon when he defeated Scotland’s George Burns four and two.
The only player from any team with a 100 per cent winning record, Amor’s performance was not enough for England to win overall, as they lost out to Ireland.
Amor is set to begin his Boys’ Amateur Championship campaign at Royal Liverpool today (Tuesday).
The championship features a 252-strong field of the best young golfers from around the world.
