UPDATED: Rossiter pleased with quick rescheduling
SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter is pleased this evening's rained off meeting with Lakeside has been quickly rearranged for this Thursday.
Heavy rain this morning waterlogged the Abbey Stadium track forcing the meeting to be called off at lunchtime, with the early decision allowing fans and riders alike to avoid making wasted trips.
After Sky Sports decided to switch their coverage to Poole’s visit to Lakeside tonight the Robins had previously toyed with moving the fixture back to their regular race night, but after initially sticking with their Monday night slot the match will now be held at 7.30pm on Thursday.
Rossiter is happy with the quick decision, and believes running the meeting so soon will still allow his side plenty of time to prepare for their upcoming play-off campaign, even though they will have to wait to find out who they will face.
“It was still raining when we made the decision and it rained all morning, we tried all we could but in the end we had to call it off,” he said.
“Obviously now we still have Thursday to go now but if there are no problems there then we will still have time to focus on the play-offs.
“Thursday is our regular race night so it’s not such a bad thing to be running the meeting then, and hopefully that might draw a few more people through the gate and we can have another big crowd.”
Robins sponsors Excalibur and Pebley Beach had run promotions in the lead up to the meeting which allowed fans to attend the match for only £10, and anyone with a voucher will still be able to use them when the meeting is restaged.
Car specialists Pebley Beach were also set to give away £20 MOT vouchers with every programme sold at the meeting and that offer will also apply on Thursday.
The meeting will still have a major significance on who makes the play-offs with Lakeside’s destiny still in their own hands if they can claim a victory.
