SWINDON SUNDAY LEAGUE: Fox & Hounds thump Wedge
6:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Sport
BLAINE Fitzgerald struck five times as Fox & Hounds progressed to the second round of the Knockout Cup with ease following an 11-0 victory over FC Wedge.
Brothers Jamie and Luke Shepherd and Jake Johnson all found the net twice in the easy victory over the Division Five side, and boss Jamie Richards always knew his Division One team were likely to win.
“I looked at their result from last week and they lost quite heavily, so we always felt confident because they are a new team in a lower division to us,” he said.
“We took a little while to score our first goal but then we kept pushing and managed a few more because we didn’t take our foot off the gas before we scored with the last kick of the game.”
In total 262 goals were scored on the first cup weekend of the season across 27 matches, with New Century the highest scorers as they managed 13 without reply against Cricklade MTA.
There were also two games which ended in dramatic 8-8 draws, with The Dolphin eventually beating Trak FC 5-4 on penalties and Robnor Resins triumphing 3-2 in their shootout with Smart Movers.
Chris Mills equalled an SKS Blyskawica club record as he scored six goals in one game and even had the ball in the net for number seven against Gorsehill Borough but was adjudged to be offside.
