Robins will entertain Pirates in first-leg clash
SWINDON Robins have opted to host Poole Pirates in the first leg of the Elite League play-off semi-finals next Monday.
The reigning champions beat Lakeside 54-38 at Blunsdon last night as they finished second in the league table and ensured they had the choice of whether to ride home or away first, but in doing so made sure Poole snuck in to the top four at the Hammers’ expense.
After a brief meeting following the match the Robins bosses decided to ride at home on Monday night, and team manager Alun Rossiter is happy with the call for both on and off-track reasons.
“We are taking the home leg first even though the football club have Bristol City on Saturday and Chelsea on the Tuesday, but it’s still the right thing for us to do,” he said.
“We could have gone down there first and got next to nothing or have been mugged and ended up losing, so we need to hit them hard at home.
“We desperately need a big crowd because we knew people were going to struggle last night which was a shame, but the semi-final is going to be a massive meeting.
“Poole are like the pantomime villains but they bring a lot of supporters, but it’s the play-offs and it’s a great meeting.”
