HELLENIC LEAGUE: Fisher concerned by suspension effect

Swindon Advertiser: John Fisher John Fisher

HIGHWORTH manager John Fisher is concerned that last month’s ill-disciplined clash with Thame will cause major damage to his team’s campaign.

Three Highworth players were sent off in the 2-0 victory on December 28 – while the hosts had four men dismissed – and those suspensions are now kicking in.

Skipper and top scorer TJ Bohane is banned for one game after picking up his fifth booking in Oxfordshire, while fellow forward Brad Clark was dismissed for two bookable offences, so has been handed the same punishment.

Chris Flanagan and Toby Clark both start three-game bans after their red cards, while Lewis Page is ruled out for a prior suspension.

Fisher is hoping that tomorrow’s Hellenic League Premier Division clash at Reading can beat the elements so that Bohane and Brad Clark will be available for the Wiltshire Senior Cup quarter-final at Melksham a week tomorrow.

However, if the game is called off, and Reading’s club website suggested yesterday that the chances of the fixture getting the green light looked unlikely, then Fisher will be faced with major availability problems for a high-stakes cup clash.

“The fallout from the Thame game is going to cost us,” said Fisher.

“You don’t really realise the damage that’s been done until the suspensions kick in.

“The trouble is we’ve got no midweek games now so these bans could end up running for a month to six weeks.

”We need to be playing on Saturday so that we can get two of them back for the following Saturday, but judging by the forecast it’s not looking very promising.

“We need TJ and Brad available for the Melksham game as they are big players for us.”

Meanwhile, Highworth are set to host a celebration for the club’s 120th anniversary in 2014.

The club’s committee is organising a reunion of all past and present players, committee members and supporters of the club Anyone who has been involved at Highworth over the years that is interested in attending is urged to contact club secretary Fraser Haines on 07939 032451.
