A whirlwind start for debutant Reckord

Swindon Advertiser: Jamie Reckford Jamie Reckford

HAVING come off the bench for his Swindon Town debut within four hours of signing for the club on loan from Wolves, Jamie Reckord has admitted he didn’t know the names of many of his teammates when he was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Reckord penned a 93-day emergency loan deal at the County Ground shortly before noon on Saturday and didn’t anticipate playing a part in the weekend clash with Shrewsbury Town.

However, he was named amongst the substitutes by manager Mark Cooper and, when Jay McEveley was forced off through injury two minutes after half-time, Cooper turned to his latest acquisition to deputise.

“I wasn’t expecting to be involved at all. When the game was going on I didn’t expect to be involved but when I got the shout to come on I was delighted to play,” said Reckord.

“I signed just before 12 and got to know everyone when I was in the dressing room. It was a little bit hard to learn names but it was alright.

“Everyone seems happy (with the win) but that’s about it. I don’t know everyone’s names so it’s a bit difficult but everyone’s buzzing.”

Reckord is out of contract at Molineux this summer and he hopes to impress sufficiently during his temporary stay in Wiltshire to earn a longer stint with Town.

“I played here a few times. They pass it well, they keep the ball well and that suits me at times,” he said.

“I’m out of contract at the end of the season so I need to take it game by game and see what happens. It’s a really good club.

“I like to go forward to hopefully I can bring something attacking to the club as well. I’ve always looked up to Ashley Cole and I’ve always enjoyed watching him.”

Despite being some way below their best, Swindon secured all three points against Shrewsbury thanks to two goals from Michael Smith and one from Nile Ranger.

“It wasn’t the best conditions but I was happy to play,” said Reckord. “We won and that’s the main thing.

“We dominated the first half, let them in with the goal and gave them a bit of confidence. They came back into the game but luckily we got the three points.”

Never mind Jamie not knowing the players' names - he has an excuse. What about the caption writer to the photo? Who's Reckford?

It made me laugh when cooper and power were both interviewed on bbc wilts both saying he can play cb yet the player himself said he has never played there.

Funny, that - I thought exactly the same! I reckon the scout/s responsible should have gone to Specsavers :0)

Never heard the radio comment but if that what was said that just sums up Power,Cooper and the whole club.Hall is the best option we have as centre half and Ward is only 25 -well they started it!

I remember Cooper saying Hall had played at Left back a few times when at Brighton and Hall and was accustomed to the position yet Hall mentioned later that he had only played there once before and did not like it.. I think the term used by some managers square pegs in round holes comes to mind. Too many players had shockers on Saturday and truth is Fods, Smith, and Ranger won us that game when it seemed likely Shrews would grab all three points. What I and many found so hard on Saturday was the overplaying around the center circle and surely they must soon all realize that you have to score to win games and it seemed we were reluctant to get into the last third. Smith looked a great find and sure he will get better and better and him and Ranger would cause many defenses nightmares. Got to be 4 4 2 at Walsall surely.
