CHIPPENHAM’S Alicia Hawker began 2014 with some good news, after she was called up to attend a selection trial for the Team GB two-star European Eventing squad, writes NICKI STRONG.

Hawker, 19, has been competing at two-star level for the past two seasons, primarily with her top horse Nankin Des Ruettes, while Anthe made a promising debut in September, finishing 11th.

She said: “I was thrilled to have been invited to attend a selection day for the two-star European training squad. I would love to represent Great Britain at the championships in 2015, this will be main aim next year with Nankin des Ruettes and Charles RR.

“Charles RR is my young horse owned by my grandfather Bob Hawker. I hope he will make the step up to two-star this year.”

Hawker’s good fortune continued when she found winning form at the Baileys Jumping and Style (JAS) at Hartpury on January 18.

The series judges horse and rider on style, technique and jumping faults over a course of showjumps and cross country fences in an indoor arena. The lowest mark wins.

Hawker rode Nankin Des Ruettes HC in the Novice (1m 10cm), before jumping clear round the Open (1m 15cm). The pair incurred four time faults, added to a near perfect style mark of one to seal victory eight points clear of her closest rival.
